Pimple Inside Nose: Causes and Quick Ways to Help

You probably have had pimples on various parts of your body. These unsightly and embarrassing skin bumps can also cause discomfort, especially when they are painful. Pimples occur when the sebaceous glands, located in the base of the hair follicles, become clogged or are infected. And while pimples or zits can appear on any part of your body, some can be especially uncomfortable. A case in point is a pimple inside nose. How can you deal with it?

What Causes Pimples Inside Nose?

1. Folliculitis

Folliculitis occurs when a hair follicle is inflamed. Folliculitis presents as a pimple and is usually red and tender to touch and can also be itchy. It can appear on any part of the body with hair, including the nose. So, don't be too distressed when you spot a pimple inside the nose. It usually goes away on its own if it is not irritated. Leading causes of folliculitis include bacterial, fungal and viral infections.

2. Furuncle

A furuncle is a tiny red abscess that is hot and painful. It arises when the infection in the hair follicles goes deeper into the skin. Furuncles are usually filled with pus that can be greenish- yellow in color. Furuncles leave a scar after they heal and when the abscess is open, a tissue plug usually comes out and leaves a crater-like inflammation.

3. Eczema

Eczema is a skin condition that can be genetic in nature or brought about by irritants or allergies. Eczema sometimes causes pimples inside nose.

4. Ingrown Hair

When hair grows out of its follicle, curls back onto itself and starts to grow into the skin, the condition is called ingrown hair. Ingrown hair happens in areas with coarse skin which is often shaved. It can also cause a pimple in your nose if you cut nasal hair.

5. Blockage of Pores

Dead skin and production of excess oil by the sebaceous glands can cause pimples on the forehead, ears, and nose.

6. Other Factors

You can also have a pimple inside nose due to factors like constantly nose picking, blowing the nose, squeezing the zit, etc.

How to Get Rid of the Nose Pimples

Squeezing the pimple is a no-no. It only worsens the situation by spreading the infection to other areas and can lead to more severe problems. Instead of picking and squeezing the troublesome bump, why don't you try the following remedies?

1. Apply a Warm Compress

Using a warm compress on a zit will accelerate the process of pus production and also significantly reduce the painful sting.

  • Boil some water and use it to soak a ball of cotton wool.
  • Squeeze out the excess water and apply the warm cotton ball directly on the pimple inside the nose.
  • Repeat this procedure two to three times a day until the pimple inside nose is ready to be drained out.

2. Use Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera is nature's gift to the world. It has powerful antibacterial properties that work wonders on the skin. It cures and prevents inflammation and redness. Aloe vera also gifts your skin with skin restoration after the unsightly zit heals.

  • Get a leaf of aloe vera and split it in two to obtain the gel from the inside.
  • Apply the gel on the spot and leave it on for about 15 minutes before wiping it out with warm water.
  • Repeat this twice, every day until the pimple disappears.

3. Try Tea Tree Oil

The tea tree is another excellent natural healer. Its wonder oil heals pimples and prevents new ones from developing. It also kills the bacteria in the hair follicles as well as cleanses the hair follicle. Make sure you have diluted the tea tree oil if it is in pure form.

  • Apply tea tree oil on the bump using a clean cotton ball.
  • Leave it on for about five minutes before rinsing it with warm water.
  • Repeat the procedure two or three times daily until the pimple inside nose is healed.

4. Apply Epsom Salt Solution

Epsom salt is effective at treating blind pimples.

  • Stir a tablespoon of Epsom salt in half a cup of warm water.
  • Place a cotton ball soaked with the solution on the pimple and leave it on for fifteen minutes before rinsing.
  • Repeat two times daily until the pimple is healed.

5. Make Lifestyle Changes

  • Change Your Eating Habits: What you eat determines a great deal how your health will turn out. Avoid junk food because it has nothing of value to offer your body. Instead, incorporate vegetables and nuts in your daily diet and eat your way to an amazing skin.
  • Increase Water Intake: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. Reduce your intake of carbonated beverages.
  • Get Vitamin D: Vitamin D helps to clear the skin. Get your dose of it by spending some time outdoors. Just remember to wear sunscreen.
  • Relieve Stress: Stress causes hormonal imbalance that subsequently causes pimples. Relax and relieve some of the stress by exercising.

6. Try Medications

A pimple inside nose can also be treated using over-the-counter topical medications that are available as gels, creams, and lotions like the following:

  • Salicylic acid
  • Benzoyl peroxide
  • Sulfur
  • Retin A
  • Azelaic acid
  • Resorcinol

Depending on the severity of the situation, your doctor may recommend oral or IV antibiotics to combat the pimples. You should, however, never take antibiotics for a prolonged period. Surgery may sometimes be necessary to drain the pimple, albeit rarely.

When to Seek Medical Help

Seek medical attention if you have the following symptoms:

  • The pimple getting worse and more painful as it gets bigger
  • Your pupils uneven in size
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Experiencing sudden confusion and disorientation
  • Painful pimple accompanied by fever
  • Blurred or double vision

How to Prevent Pimples Inside Your Nose

  • Avoid blowing your nose constantly.
  • Don't pick your nose or touch the inside with dirty fingers.
  • Always cover your nose if you are in a dusty place to prevent the dust from settling on the hairs inside.
  • Avoid eating junk and oily food especially if your skin is prone to acne.
