Derma Roller Before and After

Everyone wants beautiful smooth skin! Women and men alike have incorporated skin care into their daily routines for thousands of years. In recent times, microdermabrasion and exfoliating has become a popular choice. Using a derma roller is a new and innovative way to stimulate collagen for healthy new skin growth by using “micro-needles.” This article will help you see the results of the derma roller before and after using one so that you can decide whether it really works.

How Do Derma Rollers Work?

The derma roller is a roller on a wand that is about 2 inches in width. It has a roller head that is covered with ultra-fine micro-needles. These needles poke holes into your skin and allow air in to the pores. This stimulates collagen production and heals the skin. It is even said to remove acne scarring. It can also help reduce the appearance of stretch marks, age, and sun damage.

The way these work is they put thousands of tiny holes in your skin. This stimulates it to make more collagen and elastin and grow healthy new skin cells. They are quickly becoming a popular skin care item.

Derma Roller Before and After: Do they Work?

They don’t feel comfortable when using it and can even hurt, but the results come gradually for some uses, while for some others, there’s just not much a difference.

Here is one user’s account:

“I lay back on my dermatologists table and she began to roll the roller over my skin. With the numbing, I really couldn’t feel what she was doing. She did about six rolls over each area of my face including nose, forehead, and my cheeks. After the treatment, it was a little painful and the punctures were bleeding a bit. They wiped my face gently with moist gauze and I was on my way.

My kids asked me if I had cosmetic surgery because I still had some blood spots left on my face when I got home. I looked like I had a sunburn for a few days after the procedure. I made sure to take gentle care of my skin and moisturize a few times a day. I was unable to wear any makeup because it would stick on the “scabby” pieces of dried skin that had begun to slough off.

After about a week, my face began to soften up. There were still some marks and my face didn’t look much different. I’m still not sure if I should have even done the treatment.” ---Tracy

Even though Tracy didn’t have a positive experience others claim that the derma roller:

  • Reduced appearance of scarring due to acne or facial injury
  • Less wrinkles
  • Easier penetration of skin care products

If you want to know if a derma roller will work, here are some of the positive effects:

  • Stimulates Collagen Production – People who use derma roller state that their skin feels suppler and more elastic. They lost the look of bags and saggy spots just weeks after using this tool. Stimulating production of collagen helps the skin heal itself.
  • Helps Reduce Appearance of Lines and Wrinkles. Collagen increases the elasticity of your skin and fills in lines. This can actually erase these imperfections permanently.
  • Fades Acne Scarring. Pimples heal into scars and without enough collagen, they can be very prominent. Collagen can fill in the “pits” left by acne and smooth the face. This may take more than one or several treatments, but has shown to be effective.
  • Fades Stretch Marks. Collagen can heal and fade stretch marks on your skin. The derma roller stimulates more collagen to be produced inside stretch marks and they begin to fade in around 4 to 6 weeks.

Always remember that consistency is the key because for skin issues, you can expect to see results overnight.

Warning: DO NOT USE ON OPEN SORES OR ACNE!

Derma Roller Before and After Pictures

In order to believe if this works or not, take a look at these derma roller before and after pictures:

Figure 1: Scars Before and After

You can see here the scar tissue was very white and differently colored than the regular skin. After derma roller treatments, the scar tissue takes on a more “skin like” color to help it blend in better.

Figure 2: Acne Scars Before and After

Acne scarring causes pitting and discoloration to the skin. You can see after the derma roller treatment the skin is smother, lighter, and less pitted.

Figure 3: Wrinkles Before and After

Eye wrinkles or lines around the mouth can be prominent and stand out, especially if you have dark circles. Using the derma roller can reduce lines and wrinkles and possibly even helps fade any discoloration.

Figure 4: Stretch Marks Before and After

Gaining and losing weight can cause the skin to stretch and not return to its original elasticity. It can also cause discoloration. After the derma roller, stretch marks appear lighter and less prominent.

Proper Use of Derma Roller Is Essential

Important Note: The derma roller wands must be kept very clean and disinfected before and after each use. You can transmit bacteria into your body during the procedure if you do not disinfect it after each use. Always remember:

Check Needle Size. Make sure you are using at least a .50 to .75 mm needle for best results. Firmer skin on the thighs or abdomen may need at least a 1.00 mm needle.

Don’t Over Do Things With Each Treatment. You only need to roll the roller over the area around 10 times and never longer than two minutes. Less is more when using the derma roller and better to do just a little at a time over a few months.

Role the Right Way. Make sure you alternate the direction that you roll during a treatment. Go top to bottom and then right to left.

Only Use Your Own Roller. To prevent infection, only use your own roller and do not share them. Make sure you only use the derma roller on clean skin.

  1. Use 70 percent alcohol to sanitize the area and your derma roller. Make sure you soak your roller in soapy water after you use it and then clean it with alcohol each time.
  2. Wash your face thoroughly.
  3. Roll a few times in one direction lightly and then switch directions. Don’t press hard. Work through small sections of your skin each roll. Make sure you lift off the skin before you start a new section or direction.
  4. Moisturize your skin when you are done. Make sure you use a moisturizer with vitamin A, B, C, and E.
  5. Wash your roller with soap and hot water and then spray with alcohol before storing.
